The UK’s vaccine programme has moved on to Phase Two, with everyone over all those aged 50 and over, the clinically vulnerable and health and social care workers having been offered a vaccine.
The Government announced this week that it has met its target of offering a vaccination to everyone in groups 1-9 a vaccination by the 15th April. This group accounts for 99% of all COVID-19 deaths during the pandemic.
32,250,481 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine, and it is estimated that the vaccine programme has saved 10,000 lives between December and March.
The second phase has now begun, and the Government has confirmed it will continue to be an aged based approach with people aged 45-49 now able to book a vaccine via the NHS Booking Service.
North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson said: “The progress of the vaccination rollout is hugely encouraging, and I am delighted to see so many people getting vaccinated. This has been a massive undertaking, and it is thanks to doctors and nurses, local health organisations, volunteers, and many other people, that it has been so successful. We owe them a huge amount of thanks.”
