Stratton Scouts Face Dragon MP In Entrepreneur Event

Teams from Stratton St Margaret 1st Scouts today faced ‘Dragons’ North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson and his fiancée Jo Wheeler.

The Scouts had been working towards their entrepreneurial badge, a six week project in which they have to research, plan and then execute a business idea. The Dragons Den event was an opportunity for the teams to pitch to Dragons Justin, Jo and scout leader Tony Kilburn for extra funding to help their business.

Team Charisma pitched their idea of holding a table top sale at the scout hut and taking over the running of the cafe. The clear roles they had assigned to each team member and their impressive organisation won them the vote of Dragon Jo, who runs her own pet care business.

The Responsibles presented their business plan, to hold a cake and jewellery sale at Wharf Green in Swindon, winning the vote of MP Justin, who ran a printing and marketing company for ten years.

After a nail biting tie, the casting vote was made by Tony Kilburn for The Responsibles, clinched by them having secured a slot in Swindon to sell their products.

Justin Tomlinson MP said “This has been a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I am a huge champion of encouraging young people to start their own businesses and I have been very impressed by the enthusiasm, ideas and entrepreneurial talent I have seen tonight. I wish both teams the best of luck with their business ventures.”
