Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service And North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson Join Together For Christmas Gift Appeal

Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service and North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson are again joining forces this year for the third time to ensure families supported by the service can enjoy the festive period.

Christmas can be a very difficult time for families who find themselves in refuges - some families may have limited funds, and some families may have had to move into a refuge urgently leaving Christmas presents behind. Which is why Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service and Justin are asking people to donate gifts which will be distributed to families who are either in the refuge or supported by the service.

By donating a gift for a young person or women in the refuge, you can brighten up their Christmas, and ensure they have gifts to open on Christmas morning.

Gifts can be dropped off at: Justin Tomlinson MP’s Office (the Orbital Customer Service Hub opposite the Library); Westlea Primary School (Langstone Way); Goddard Park Primary School (Welcombe Avenue); and Choice Trade Frames (Hawkesworth Trading Estate).

Gifts are needed for women and men, children of all ages – boys aged 10-17 in particular, as there are usually fewer donations in this area.

Ideas for gifts include new items such as toiletries, PJs, scarves and gloves, games, toys, puzzles, books, and even festive food items (with long dates) such as mince pies, Christmas puddings and crisps and snacks.

Gifts must be new, unwrapped and in their original packaging

There was an overwhelming response to last year’s campaign, with Penhill and Upper Stratton Cllr Oladapo Ibitoye (Cabinet Member for Children’s Services) delivering two car loads of gifts to the refuge – and it is hoped for a similarly generous response this year.

Justin Tomlinson MP said: "Christmas is the perfect time to spread a little cheer – after all, it is the season of good will. It would be amazing if people could pick up an extra gift while they are doing their Christmas shopping to donate to the appeal, it really could make a difference to someone’s Christmas."
