Two Football Clubs in Swindon will benefit from the Premier League’s Match Day Supporters Fund to cover the costs of adjustments that need to be made to safely cater for the return of players and supporters.
In order to help the return of fans to live games Swindon Supermarine will receive £10,000 and Highworth Town FC will receive £7,000. The money can be used to help make changes required to reopen their stadia in line with the latest guidance – this includes risk assessments, help to reduce capacity, and adaptations to allow for socially distanced crowds. In addition to this the money can be used to assist supporters, to ensure they can travel to and attend the game safely, This could include:
- The purchase of contactless payment technology
- The installation of hand-sanitisation points
- Implementing advance ticketing systems
- Specialist consultancy support around risk assessments or travel plans
- Fan engagement interventions; such as additional signage, stewarding or transport hubs.
More than 1,000 clubs across 65 leagues have benefitted from the Match Day Supporters Fund, which has already distributed £5.5 million.
North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson said: “As a huge football fan I am pleased that the Premier League, through the Match Day Supporters Fund, is supporting clubs to ensure that fans can get back to the stadiums and cheer on their team in person.”
