Swindon MPs, Justin Tomlinson and Robert Buckland have joined the Minister of State for Disabled People, Mark Harper MP, on a visit to the Olive Tree Cafe in Cheney Manor, as part of the Minister's work to support people recovering from mental health conditions back into work.
The Olive Tree Cafe has been based in the Manor Garden Centre since 2011 and currently has 50 volunteers who suffer from, or are recovering from, mental health conditions. The cafe provides a working environment in order to help them develop the confidence and skills they need in order to equip them into mainstream employment.
During the visit, the Minister had the opportunity to speak to the cafe's manager, Phyllida Richards, about the extension to the cafe which is due to take place later this month, as well as speaking to all of the volunteers who were on hand to provide the excellent breakfasts and lunches enjoyed by so many local residents.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: "As both a customer and supporter of this excellent charity, I was delighted to invite Mark to come and see the brilliant work that Phyllida and her team do. The cafe is also a great part of the local community and I am pleased that, due to popular demand, the cafe is currently undertaking an expansion which is due to be completed in December."
