Swindon will be one of the areas moving into Tier 3 Covid-19 restrictions, following announcements made today by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock. It is expected that many areas across the UK will have their Covid-19 tier restrictions hightenened to Tier 3 or Tier 4, as a neccesary measure to control the spread of Covid-19.
Tier 3 will involve stricter restrictions when compared with Tier 2, these include more restrictive measures for the hospitality, leisure and entertainment sectors. Travel is also heavily advised against in all but neccesary examples, specifically education or work.

Today's announcement by Matt Hancock paid particular attention to a new strain of the virus, which is believed to have originated in South Africa. The Government's move, coupled by the changes to the Christmas guidelines have been in response to a growing number of cases in recent weeks, and the neccesity to not put undue pressure on health services. With vaccinations of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine alone having already passed 500,000 people, the Health Secretary reiterated the Government's commitment to mass immunisation to build up resistance to the virus.
