Swindon Advertiser Weekly Article - 7th February

Three and a half years ago this week, I first spoke in Parliament on the subject of our much loved community libraries in a Westminster Hall debate on their future.  As the former Lead Member for Leisure, Recreation & Culture, which included libraries, on Swindon Borough Council, it was with exceptional pride that the first debate I called in Parliament should was on libraries. Even since then, I have been a champion in Parliament of protecting and enhancing library services.  Having been a ...

Justin Visits Morden Primary School To Pass Parliamentary Bill

Justin Tomlinson MP recently visited Moredon Primary School to give an assembly and give the school the opportunity to pass its very own Parliamentary School Bill. Justin outlined the campaign that he focused on in Parliament - school libraries, school sport and financial education for young people, all of which the children thought were good campaigns. Students then voted on which area they wanted to bring forward a Bill on - with school sport winning by an overwhelming majority. One side of th...

Swindon Advertiser Weekly Article - 31st January

This week we have seen Sky Sports News presenter Charlie Webster embark on her very own Big Challenge. She is running 250 miles, visiting 40 football clubs in seven days, to raise money for the charity Women’s Aid and highlight domestic abuse. That is staggeringly more than seven marathons in seven days, I’ll certainly never complain again if I feel tired in a mere football match! As I write this article she has already covered 100 miles, battling blisters, swellings, stomach upsets, visits to h...

Justin Backs EU Referendum As Labour & Liberal Democrats Block The Bill

Justin Backs EU Referendum As Labour & Liberal Democrats Block The Bill

Yesterday as expected Labour & Liberal Democrats voted to block our EU Referendum Bill in the House of Lords. Both parties are so afraid of what the British people might say that they have voted to stop you having a say at all. This is a disgrace. • The fight continues. We are going to try to re-introduce the bill in the next session of Parliament and, if necessary, rely on the provisions of the Parliament Act• We are the only the party that wants to - and can - give the British people their...

Swindon MPs Join Forces To Say No To Violence Against Women

Swindon MPs Join Forces To Say No To Violence Against Women

A respect initiative over the coming weeks will see postcards displayed and circulated of Swindon men from all professions, ages and cultures posing in the eye-catching crew-neck tees. It is the first campaign of its kind to highlight violence against women by targeting men who may be aware of such incidents, and as such the postcards will include contact details on the back enabling them to seek help, including counselling. The Swindon campaign is a local take on a variety of 'inspiring change'...

Swindon Advertiser Weekly Article - 24th January

I drove past Regent Circus this week and finally the bare metal bones of the new cinema and restaurant complex are beginning to see flesh, with work moving on to the walls and floors.     In many ways, the regeneration going on in Swindon is the flesh on the bones of the economic recovery we have built.  Yes the economic data has been showing positive signs for a while, but it is not until Swindon families have seen the cranes move into the Town, not until over 150,000 local residents have felt ...
