Swindon Advertiser Column - Learning About The History Of Coate Water Railway

This week I joined volunteers at the Coate Water Miniature Railway for their summer Thank You BBQ. The Coate Water Miniature Railway is a fantastic, long-standing leisure attraction in Swindon, with over 70 volunteers providing so much joy to families at Coate. Their summer BBQ was an excellent way to thank volunteers for all the work they do throughout the year, and it was a great opportunity for me to find out more about the history and how it has evolved over the years. It was great to meet s...

Swindon Advertiser Column - Open Door Centre Café A Brilliant Way To Support Local Charity

Last Friday I visited the Open Door Centre Café at St Barnabas Church Hall. The busy café offers a great menu, but it also helps raise valuable funds and provides opportunities for its members. The Open Door Centre serves those in Swindon and its surrounding areas with learning and/or physical difficulties and mental health issues, enabling all to reach their full potential. It operates like a hub providing food, support, and activities like trips and swimming lessons; and the Centre has an awar...

Swindon Advertiser Column - Commonwealth Games Sees Birmingham Shine

This week saw the conclusion of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which were being held in Birmingham. It was great to see England come second on the medal table with 176 medals (57, 66, 53), only two medals behind Australia, who topped the table. I was also pleased to see Scotland come 6th, Wales come 8th, and Northern Ireland come 11th. The Commonwealth Games have been a fantastic event and a really great effort by Birmingham. As per my recent tweet on the games, I now think there should be serious...
